AB Strategies under investigation--in some cases in clinical
trials--include the delivery of suicide genes to induce the
self-destruction of infected or tumorous cells and the delivery of genes
to facilitate T-cell recognition of such cells. The HIV life cycle
offers many additional attack points for therapeutic genes designed to
prevent the expression of viral genes or to impede the function of
essential HIV proteins.
